A report by insurance group RSA reveals that the number of micro-businesses in the UK has increased by over 40% since 2000.
Micro-businesses are firms which employ between 0 - 9 workers. The research by the RSA found that:
- 1.4 million micro- businesses have launched since 2000 - Zero-employee firms are the fastest growing business size - 75% of UK businesses in 2013 were zero-employee firms - The number of zero-employee firms in the UK has increased by 21% following the recession - Medium-sized businesses are more likely to have got smaller (16.5%) than larger (3.6%) from 2008 - 2011 - All regions except London saw decreasing numbers of high-growth firms
